BLOG 2 - 5 Ways to Prove You’re ADHD

(So You Can Walk Into Your Diagnosis Feeling Confident You’ll Be Believed)

Getting diagnosed shouldn’t feel like a test you’re doomed to fail — but for so many of us, it does.
You sit there, trying to explain your whole life in one appointment, terrified you’ll forget the “important” bits or not sound “ADHD enough.”

Here’s what I wish I’d known before my first appointment — 5 ways to go in confident, prepared, and believed.


1. Track Real-Life Examples

Forget the clinical jargon — focus on how ADHD actually shows up for you.
Write down the everyday stuff that frustrates or confuses you:

→ “Forgot my lunch twice this week.”

→ “Spent 4 hours deep-diving into a random topic instead of replying to emails.”

→ “Cried over a small comment because my brain hit overload.”

These aren’t random stories — they’re patterns. And patterns are what professionals recognise.

💡 Tip: Try jotting down how often it happens (frequency), how much it affects you (impact), and how strong it feels (intensity).


2. Turn Feelings Into Facts

If you only describe how you feel — “overwhelmed,” “lazy,” “unmotivated” — they’ll hear emotion, not evidence.
Translate your feelings into something measurable.

💬 Try this:
Instead of “I’m lazy,” say “I struggle to start tasks unless there’s urgency or external pressure.”
Instead of “I’m disorganised,” say “I start lots of things but rarely finish because I lose focus halfway through.”

You’re not changing your story — you’re giving them the clarity they need to see the pattern.

3. Collect Tangible Proof

Your brain will forget half of what you want to say (because ADHD). So don’t rely on memory.

Save screenshots, messages, old school reports, work notes, even funny “ADHD moment” texts. They’re all proof of patterns that have been there for years.
Even your coping mechanisms count — the things you’ve built to survive are data too.

💡 Tip: Keep everything in one folder or document titled “Proof Portfolio.” That’s your starting point.


4. Show Frequency, Impact & Intensity

One-off forgetfulness doesn’t get attention — but consistent patterns do.
For each example, ask:

→ How often does this happen? (Frequency)

→ How much does it affect your day-to-day life? (Impact)

→ How strong does it feel in the moment? (Intensity)

Example:

“Lost my keys 5 times this week. Late to work 3 times, cried once out of frustration.”

That’s real-world data they can’t ignore.

💡 Tip: You can use colour-coded dots, quick ratings out of 10, or voice notes if writing’s too hard.


5. Drop the Mask — Be 100% Yourself

You don’t need to hold it together in that room.
Masking might make you look “fine,” but it hides the reality of how hard you’re working just to appear that way.

If you’re exhausted, stimmy, overwhelmed, or emotional — let that show.
You’re not being dramatic. You’re being honest.
